Pinot Noir is the most widely planted grape variety in the whole of Champagne. It can be found in both the farthest northern reaches, 30 miles North of Reims, as well as the southern area bordering Chablis, known as the Aube. The main area for production though, is in the very heart of Champagne, the Montagne de Reims, home to legendary Grand Cru villages such as Bouzy, Verzy and Verzenay.

In this case, we travel across the region in order to capture the wonderful rich and opulent styles this noble grape is renowned for and showcase what it’s capable of with a selection of non-vintage, vintage and limited edition cuvées.

Emilien Allouchery Le Repertoire 2019

We start in the Petite Montagne de Reims with a new producer on the scene. Coming from the wonderful 2019 vintage, this pure Pinot Noir is vinified in oak and amphora with 20% malolactic fermentation giving it playful oxidation alongside some lovely creamy notes that complement the classic dark fruit flavours.

Paul Clouet Bouzy 2015

No Pinot Noir collection would be complete without a visit to Bouzy in the Grand Montagne de Reims and this is the first of two cuvées from this iconic Grand Cru village. This cuvée is surprisingly soft on the front end but then the vinosity builds as expected. There is a lovely rich texture alongside the red fruits, followed by a crisp finish.

Georges Remy Blanc de Noirs 2019

The second wine from Bouzy and perhaps the most popular cuvée from this ever-popular producer. This wine has a level of intensity rarely seen in any wine, never mind Georges Remy! The richness is incredible and there is wonderful grip and energy to the delivery.

A. Levasseur Noir de Terroirs

We move into the Marne for our fourth wine and a producer who has been producing consistently excellent wines year on year. A fantastic expression of the terroir, this cuvée offers up notes of clay, honey and blackcurrant; it opens beautifully on the front end to connect brilliantly on the mid palate, creating a juicy, long finish.

William Saintot Tortelue

We remain in the Marne but head easterly to Avenay Val d'Or and William Saintot's single-vineyard creation. Made in tiny quantities it's a really different style of Pinot, with some sweetness, grippy tropical fruits and a crisp saline bite.

Remi Leroy Saignée Les Crots 2018

We've thrown in a curveball for our final wine, which sees us head right the way down to the southerly Aube. It's a pure Pinot Noir but it's a rosé de saignée. It's an unbelievably rich and deep take on Champagne rosé and, in many ways, exemplifies our approach at Sip – unique cuvées that get your tastebuds working and your mind whirring!

Please note: Occasionally, due to stock availability, we may need to substitute bottles. In this situation, the replacement cuvées will be in the same style, and of the same or greater value.
