Georges Remy Exploration
We visited Georges before he had even released a Champagne! Having seen a bottle of Bouzy Rouge, (red wine from the village of Bouzy), we found our way to his house and were introduced to a fabulous selection of cuvées.
A few years down the line, we checked in with Georges in the Autumn of 2021. His new lines were ready, his '18 vintage was newly organic certified and all his wines were tasting absolutely sensational. As such, we felt them worthy of their own dedicated exploration case. Enjoy!
100% Chardonnay. Brut Nature. A light golden hue. Tiny bubbles. The nose shows an angular blackcurrant edge and this monster of a wine sitting beneath! It all seems a bit much on the front end. The first sip is glorious though. Such sweet fruit, all brambles, sweet strawberries and this gushing, concentration. Really good depth and primary sweetness. The finish is concentrated, saline and dry. Thankfully I left it open for 24 hours...oh my word. All the angularity of the front end has gone and you are blessed with this insane concentration and depth. Stewed apricots, bramble and redcurrants. The nose is nothing though on what the palate becomes. Rich beyond belief with this concentrated blackcurrant and lime peel note. Sea salt. God this is good.
100% Pinot Noir with 6% Red from 2018. Brut Nature. Orange, cherry gold. The nose initially showed so much tension so we decanted. Lovely richness on the front end. So vinous and rich. Violets, brambles, blackcurrant. The palate is so vinous I can't quite put it into words. There is so much lateral, creamy warmth and this texture that I haven't found before. Delightfully sweet and carrying so beautifully in a warm red wine way. This is such a fascinating rose. So vinous with a lovely touch of sweetness and delicacy to the finish.
50% Pinot Noir, 50% Chardonnay. Brut Nature. Intense nose. So much more depth than the 15. Like another 50%. Really Pinot focused right now on the front end. So deep, dark and rich. It makes you salivate with the glass not even near your nose! Deep, stewed, jammy dark fruits. Pine nut. Very delicate mousse. The Pinot is definitely still on the front end as you take your first sip with plenty of blackcurrant but then the Chardonnay grips you. So intense, so incredible. So monstrous. And this is just beginning. Every glass reveals another layer, another level of texture and fruit intensity. This is so impeccably put together we are struggling to capture it all!
82% Pinot Noir, 18% Chardonnay. 1g/ltr. From the four villages in which Georges works. There is a really vertical and vibrant nose with plenty of blueberry and toasty notes - quite pointy. Fruity and juicy palate with plenty of blue notes. Each time you go back to the nose you get such a glorious spread of vibrant red fruits, red cherries and salt. I let it open over a number of days to explore all its facets. It just grew and grew gaining a wonderful level of juicy fruit but remained saline and strict on the mid palate the whole time, giving it a serious edge alongside a growing saline texture. This will age beautifully over the next few years.
