For… Pre-Christmas Parties & Aperitifs

Beaugrand Carte Blanche Non Dose

The village of Montgueux is the last, most southerly chalky outcrop in Champagne, with its own unique style of Chardonnay. This is a great example of what can be achieved here with a crisp, generous palate that delivers delightful pert fruitiness and balance with ample structure – it’s hard to believe it’s 0g/ltr! A delicious party wine or aperitif, we could drink this all day long.

Thomas Perseval Tradition

Looking for a blend to better the Grand Marques? Try this 45/40/15 Pinot Noir/Meunier/Chardonnay from this fabulous organic producer based in the village of Chamery. There’s loads of fresh citrus fruit layered on apple pie with a brilliant mineral edge and you get a real sense of terroir with limestone notes alongside redcurrants and fresh green apple. Pour it blind at a party and let the wine do the talking. Your friends will thank you!

For… Christmas Morning

Hugues Godme Blanc de Blancs

When croissants, pastries and other delectable nibbles are all around you need a wine that can cut through the butter and sugar without getting lost in the mix, and this Blanc de Blancs from the Montagne de Reims is just the ticket. 50% oak vinified, with partial malo, it’s a far more generous style compared to classic Côte des Blancs Chardonnay with lovely fruit and floral elements and a wonderfully clean and pure finish.

For… Christmas Lunch

Bertrand Delespierre Saignée des Terres Amoureuses

This is a blockbuster of a wine for food – 100% Pinot Noir, 8g/ltr; macerated for 24 hours and vinified in large oak barrels. It’s so rich and juicy with apples, loganberry and spice on the palate – you could almost spoon it over your turkey in place of cranberry sauce! Despite this vinous power there is also amazing balance and brilliant salinity on the finish, so that it never overwhelms.

For… Boxing Day

Brocard Pierre L'Égarée

Turkey sandwiches and mince pies need something a little robust to stand up to them and this 50/50 Pinot Noir/Chardonnay blend from the Aube is just that. Vinified in oak and aged on lees for five years it’s beautifully balanced with a rich and generous palate of vanilla and raw honey. Allow it to open over the course of a Christmas movie and it reveals even more depth and a smorgasboard of flavours.

For… New Year’s Eve

Lilbert-Fils Brut Magnum

Nothing makes a statement like a magnum! Offering up a comfortable 12 glasses it’s the perfect size to share with friends and family and see in 2022. This pure 2016 Chardonnay from the Grand Cru village of Cramant is an absolute delight. The nose is floral, crisp and tight, the first sip an energy bomb full of taught chalky weight. As it goes down the floral elements lift revealing a tight, central palate full of lemon, white pepper and just a dusting of toast and salt. A special treat for the final night of the year.
