Blended Champagne Exploration
Bottles individually purchased: £336
The beauty of the blend has been synonymous with Champagne production since the 17th Century. Refined and championed by Dom Perignon, winemakers in Champagne came to realise that a blend allowed them to capture the freshness of Chardonnay, the richness of Pinot Noir and the playful fruitiness of Meunier, to create well-rounded and balanced wines.
Whilst grower Champagne typically differs from the Grand Marques due to the prevalence of single varietal and even single vineyard wines, blended cuvées are still produced by the majority our producers.
In this case, we have captured a range of our favourites from across the region that showcase just how diverse blended Champagne can be... and it offers a significant saving too!
Pierre Deville Primitif
We kick things off in the idyllic Grand Cru village of Verzy in the Montagne de Reims. This blend of 80/20 Pinot Noir/Chardonnay, recently topped a blind tasting among many well-known Grand Marques, so you can rest assured of the quality. To cap things off, the label is a genuine work of art.
Herbert & Co. Cuve 4
Formerly labelled under 'Didier Herbert' this is the first release of a fabulous wine under Thomas Herbert's new label. A blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that's boosted by use of his solera, this is a really rich, vinous and complex wine that should be savoured.
Bonnaire Rosé Assemblage
You don't find many blends in the Côte des Blancs as Chardonnay is so favoured and you also don't find many Chardonnay dominant rosés. That's why this is so special! Beautifully fresh and light, it's the ideal summer aperitif.
André Heucq Heritage Assemblage
A wonderful biodynamic producer in the heart of the Marne and an excellent example of a three grape blend. There is a lovely fruity and forward nose with this playful toasty and salty edge. The palate is dry and crisp with just the right amount of fruit on the mid to late to lift it up.
Perseval Farge C de Pinots
Our penultimate wine is a blend of the two 'Pinots' – 75% Pinot Noir, 25% Pinot Meunier. Partially vinified in oak and with portions of reserve wine, it's bursting with rich, ripe fruit, with some lovely toasty notes.
Guenin Effloraison
We finish the set in the very south of Champagne with this 70/30 Pinot Noir/ Chardonnay blend that nicely balances the power of the rich Pinot grapes with the freshness of the Chardonnay. A nicely moreish, yet complex little package!
Please note: Occasionally, due to stock availability, we may need to substitute bottles. In this situation, the replacement cuvées will be in the same style, and of the same or greater value.
