Celebrating the Women Shaping Champagne’s Future
In a region historically defined by tradition and heritage, a new generation of women winemakers are carving out a distinct path – breathing fresh life into the legendary soils of Champagne. At Sip we’re proud to feature several incredible female producers who are redefining excellence in every bottle they craft. This Mother's Day, let’s raise a glass to the women who are leading Champagne into a vibrant future.
Henriet Bazin – Marie Noelle
It's a husband and wife team at this Maison, but the winemaking is undertaken by Marie Noelle. The estate is unusual in that it works predominantly with Chardonnay in the hot-bed of Pinot Noir production that is the Grand Montagne de Reims. Their vineyards in Villers-Marmery are well-drained and laden with chalk, enabling them to create a beautifully clean, crisp and floral style of Chardonnay. The non-vintage cuvée, Henriet Bazin Blanc de Blancs remains a wonderful example that is hugely popular among trade sommeliers and consumers alike.

Perrine Fresne – Perrine Fresne
A new name in the Grower world and we were delighted to be the first to bring her wines into the UK market. Perrine is also one of the only independent winemakers in the village of Sermiers, which is dominated by a co-operative. Whilst we have received and sold out of the small number of rosé de saignées she has made, we always return to her debut cuvée, Perrine Fresne Sarmate – a beautifully balanced blend of the three noble grapes.

Domaine Vincey – Marine Zabarino
Another estate co-managed by a husband and wife team. This is a small house with big plans and ever-growing acclaim. Marine has a specific vision for their wines with sustainable and natural processes front and centre. Working with organic processes in the vineyards and minimal to no SO² in the cellar, their cuvées are the epitome of low intervention. Ageing in oak and on cap rather than cork also allows them to develop really serious and complex wines full of rich tropical fruit flavours not typically associated with the Côte des Blancs. Whilst all their wines are exceptional, their entry-level cuvée, Domaine Vincey Oger 2019 is a great introduction.

Oudiette X Filles – Margot Laurent
It's an all female family affair at this small estate in the village of Beaunay. Margot heads operations with support from sister, Charlotte, and mother, Florence. The team are among the new wave of exciting producers creating excellent wine in the Petit Morin. This portion of land south of the Côte des Blancs, has more sandy, alluvial soil and its own distinct microclimate. Having initially started with a single Chardonnay, Uni Terre, the sisters have subsequently created a beautiful Pinot Noir and, for the first time this year, a blend of the two grapes in the appropriately named, Oudiette X Filles Composition. So why not raise a toast to the special women in your life with a bottle from one of these pioneering female winemakers!
