Pinot Noir is the most widely planted grape variety in the whole of Champagne. It can be found in both the farthest northern reaches, 30 miles North of Reims, as well as the southern area bordering Chablis, known as the Aube. The main area for production though, is in the very heart of Champagne, the Montagne de Reims, home to legendary Grand Cru villages such as Bouzy, Verzy and Verzenay. 

In this case, we travel across the region in order to capture the wonderful rich and opulent styles this noble grape is renowned for and showcase what it’s capable of with a selection of non-vintage, vintage and limited edition cuvées.

Champagne Alexis Achillea

Starting in the Marne Valley we visit the village of Troissy for this terroir focussed wine. Boasting soils rich in limestone clays, sands and white/green marls, the palate offers up distinctive minerality and aromatic depth with some smoke and spice, whilst vinification and ageing in 400-litre oak barrels, adds warmth and complexity.

Herbert & Co. 1000% Pinot Noir

We head into the heart of Pinot Noir country for our next wine. A cuvée now as legendary as the label, the oak vinification and and aging on cork create a big, powerful and intense example of Pinot Noir.

Georges Remy Les Hauts Clos 2020

No Pinot Noir collection would be complete without a visit to the village of Bouzy, so we've added not one but two bottles from this legendary Grand Cru village. This is an absolute beauty – the top lieu dit from the producer with fewer than 1000 bottles produced each year. This old vine parcel creates a wine with incredible depth and complexity with brilliant layering and balance.

Paul Clouet Bouzy 2016

The second wine from the village, this cuvée has a lovely ripe nose and opens with a surprisingly soft front end. Then the vinosity builds as expected with plenty of plump, juicy red fruits and a creamy texture on the palate, whilst the finish has a nice  crisp nature.

Oudiette X Filles Les Sablonnieres

For our penultimate wine we head to the Petit Morin. Les Sablonnnières roughly translates as 'sandy lane', which gives you a good idea about the terroir that is used exclusively for this cuvée. Vinification in barrels and 10 months lees ageing create a robust Blanc de Noirs, bursting with dark fruit and texture.

We couldn't compile a set of Pinot Noir without something from the Aube and this is a beauty – rich and fruity with great texture and structure.
