Meunier Exploration
Bottles individually purchased: £174
Despite Pinot Meunier accounting for a third of all planting in the Champagne region, it is the most overlooked and under appreciated of the big-three grape varieties. Part of Meunier's image problem lies in the fact that it is little planted beyond Champagne and, as such, little known by the wider wine drinking world.
There are, however, a new wave of growers championing this superb varietal and their results are nothing short of sensational.
If you're yet to try pure, 100% Meunier Champagne, there is no better place to start than with this great value 3 pack from three of the region's Meunier maestros.
Famille Delouvin Meunier Perpetuel
Created from a solera system dating back to 1992, this wine comes from a young and exciting producer based in Vandieres. Ripe, rich and mature on the front end, with loads of nutty notes and this bright primary fruit note followed by a gorgeous salty finish.
Champagne Alexis La Terre Mere
A wonderfully well balanced Meunier that combines the classic big fruity palate that is typical of the grape with a lovely crisp, chalky bite.
Louis Brochet La Jacquesson
We finish this trio with a wonderful single-vineyard creation from the Petite Montagne de Reims. The palate is intense with a nice layer of sweet fruit. It's hugely juicy on the mid to late which links up with a touch of oak and a grip of salinity.
Please note: Occasionally, due to stock availability, we may need to substitute bottles. In this situation, the replacement cuvées will be in the same style, and of the same or greater value.
