A striking nutty gold colour. Plenty of lively bubbles. Beautifully fresh and reductive nose with a layer of chalk, touch of toast and strip or two of candied lemon peel. Just hiding away on the back end of the nose is this brilliantly acidic green apple note.
The palate is text book – vibrant, tense, generous – and nicely textured with a great little toasty layer which gives a real sense of weight and structure to the mid to late. The finish holds the acidity really well to create a lovely sense of the wine bringing itself back to the front. A wonderful 2008 that is both gorgeous in its delivery right now but will age without failure for the next 5-10 years and develop a lovely secondary layer.
House Profile
Based in the beautiful village of Montgueux, the most southerly outcrop of chalk in the Champagne region, Helene creates a fabulous range of Champagnes from wonderfully mature vines, (50 years old). The family were the first to plant in the area after the first world war. The village creates a unique style in Chardonnay; complex, spicy with a wonderful chalky note.
